Should I pitch in the LinkedIn connection request?

The note is not a landing page. Recipients did not opt into a demo by opening My Network. A pitch in that box trains them to treat every future invite as an ad.

Say why you are asking to connect, or say nothing. After they accept, you get a DM. That is where a short, relevant mention of what you do can live, still without a calendar by default.

"We help companies like yours" in the invite is a pitch even if you think it is positioning. If the sentence would fit a banner ad, it does not belong on the request.

If you cannot imagine connecting without selling, you are not networking. You are prospecting. Prospecting is allowed in practice. It still works better when the first click is not a brochure.

Measure accepts. If they crater after you added the pitch, you already have the answer. Put the product back in message two. See how to write a connection request.

Frequently asked questions

A name drop is still a pitch if the rest is a CTA. "Saw the hiring post" is enough for the invite.

Only if it is one short proof and not a case-study paragraph. Most notes cannot hold it. Save it for the DM.

A real question about their situation is not a pitch. "Open to a quick call about our platform?" is.

No. Sponsored messages are a different product. Do not mix them.
